Su di me il fumo nero dei camini
si culla e si piega al soffio del vento.
Andando di qua e di là, senza meta,
si ferma la barca in qualche piccolo porto:
alla luce incerta del faro si vede un'ombra
- ma non è nessuno.
Solo il timoniere ancora, che sta sveglio!
Solo il vento, che mi soffia nei capelli!
Dolore e gioia sopportano una dolce morte.
Un dormiente è trasportato nella nera barca.
