La meva vida es dispersa com el vent, jec tot sol i vetllo, la lluna creixent a la finestra està mirant el que faig. Jec i tinc molt de fred, sento la mort a la cambra – cor meu, per què bategues tan neguitós, cremes encara? Fluixet, començo a cantar, canto la lluna i el vent, el cérvol i el cigne, Maria i el seu fill, se m’acudeixen totes les cançons que hom pot cantar, l’estrella i la lluna entren a dins, el bosc i el cabirol són aquí, al meu costat. Tots els dolors, totes les joies s’escolen darrere els meus ulls tancats, són indiscernibles, tots són dolços, tots abrusen, no sé on sóc, vénen dones amb llavis pàl•lids i vermells, flamegen tremolant com neguitoses espelmes, una d’elles s’anomena mort, oh, com el seu ardent esguard xucla en el meu cor! Els déus desclouen llurs vells ulls, obren llurs cels ocults, cels per riure i per plorar, fan girar llurs estrelles a tota rapidesa, fan brillar totes les llunes i tots els sols. El meu cant esdevé més suau i emmudeix, el son arriba del centre del cel a través del món dels déus, avançant damunt viaranys d’estrelles. Els seus passos són com damunt la neu... Què li podria demanar...? Tot el que he sofert ha desaparegut, ja res em fa mal.
