You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of April 17, we are $5,700 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important renovation possible!

Cançó de les Mentides

Language: Catalan (Català)

El pare va anar al mercat,
el pare va anar al mercat,
a comprar una burra cega, trau, trau
a comprar una burra cega, trau, trau.
Li talla els quatre peus
la burra arrenca a córrer.
I en troba un cirerer
carregat de figues verdes.
Li tira un cop de roc
i en fa caure una ametlla.
Li cau l'ametlla al peu
li surt sang de l'orella.
De la sang que li va sortir
en corren set rieres
La van a mesurar
mitja avellana plena.
Un gos va caure al pou
un cego s'ho mirava.
Un mut cridava gent
un sord s'ho escoltava.
Pel mar corren conills
pels boscos les anguiles.
I a sota els garrofers
s'hi crien les sardines.
Aquesta és la cançó
la cançó de les mentides.
Qui la vulgui saber
que vagi a Filipines.

Song of lies

Language: English after the Catalan (Català)

Father went to the market,
father went to the market,
to buy a blind she-donkey, trau, trau
to buy a blind she-donkey, trau, trau.
He cuts off her four feet
the donkey sets off running.
And finds a cherry tree
loaded with green figs.
She flings a stone to the tree
and an almond falls down.
The almond hits her foot
and her ear bleeds.
The blood shed
makes seven torrents run.
It is going to be measured
and makes a hazelnut half full.
A dog fell into a well
and a blind man was watching it.
A dumb man was calling people
and a deaf man was listening.
Rabbits run in the sea
and eels in the forest.
And under carob trees
sardines grow.
This is the song
the song of lies.
Whoever wants to know it
to the Philippines must go.
