Com un solitari bevedor sec aquí a penes em ve de gust tastar el vi. Oh Ponte Molle, avui ha estat curiós, el dolç temps passat de la joventut i el vell amor han retornat, bufa un càlid xaloc a través del país, al meu cor crema la vella flama, es belluga com si fos un cant. Oh riu Tíber, oh catedral de Sant Pere, oh tu, immensa, totpoderosa Roma! -- Per a mi tots plegats us en podeu anar a la porra. Arreu on els meus errants viatges m’han portat, la tranquil•la, encisadora, estimada Selva Negra segueix sent el lloc més bonic del món. Oh Ponte Molle, -- que bonica era! I si encara hagués de conèixer molts milers de noies, lloaria sempre l’única. I si en aquest moment ella vingués de camí, tu mateix, tu sòlida estructura de carreus tremolaries fins al moll de l’os.
