Die Nacht stieg herab, 
aber er kehrte nicht wieder zurück. 
Lormas Seele war trüb!
»Was hält dich, du Jäger von Cona, zurück.
Du [hast]1 versprochen wieder zu kehren.
Waren die Hirsche weit in der Ferne? 
Brausen an der Heyde die düstern Winde um dich!
ich bin im Lande der Fremden, 
wer ist mein Freund, als Aldo? 
[komm]2 von deinen erschallenden Hügeln,
o mein bester Geliebter!«

Sie wandt ihre Augen gegen das Thor.
Sie lauscht zum brausenden Wind.
Sie denkt, [dies]3 seyen die Tritte von Aldo. 
Freud steigt in ihrem Antlitz! 
aber Wehmut kehrt wieder, 
wie am Mond eine dünne Wolke, zurück.

Lorma zat in de woonzaal van Aldo.
Zij zat bij 't licht van een vlammend blok eiken.
De nacht zonk al neer,
maar nog keerde niet Aldo terug.
Lorma's ziel was bedroefd!
"Wat houdt jou toch, jager van Cona, nog vast?
Je hebt toch beloofd, ja, hier weer te keren.
Waren de herten ver weggetrokken?
Suizen op de heide de duist're winden om jou?
Ik ben beland in den vreemde.
Wie is mijn vriend als Aldo?
Kom nu snel van je weerschallende heuvels,
o mijn beste geliefde!"
 
Zij wendde haar ogen plots naar de poort.
Beluistert de stormende wind.
Zij denkt: dat zijn toch de stappen van Aldo.
Vreugd stijgt haar naar de wangen!
Maar bedroefdheid komt dan weer,
als bij maan een heel dunne wolk, over haar.
