Was weckst du, Frühling, mich von neuem wieder?
Daß all die alten Wünsche auferstehen,
Geht übers Land ein wunderbares Wehen;
Das schauert mir so lieblich durch die Glieder.
Die schöne Mutter grüßen tausend Lieder,
Sie wieder jung im Brautkranz süß zu sehen;
Der Wald will sprechen, rauschend Ströme gehen,
Najaden tauchen singend auf und nieder.
Die Rose seh' ich gehn aus grüner Klause
Und, wie so buhlerisch die Lüfte fächeln,
Errötend in die laue Flut sich dehnen.
So mich auch ruft ihr aus dem stillen Hause --
Und schmerzlich nun muß ich im Frühling lächeln,
Versinkend zwischen Duft und Klang vor Sehnen.

Primavera, per què em despertes de nou?
Per ressuscitar tots els antics desigs,
un hàlit meravellós passa damunt el país;
travessa els meus membres en un dolç estremiment.
Mil cançons saluden la formosa mare,
jove de nou, bonica de veure amb la seva corona nupcial;
el bosc vol parlar, els rius corren remorejant,
les nàiades entren i surten de l’aigua cantant.
Veig sortir les roses de llurs verds capolls
i mentre l’oreig les venta tan amorosament,
enrojolant-se, es despleguen al tebi corrent.
A mi també em crideu a sortir de la meva tranquil·la casa –
i ara dolorosament haig de somriure a primavera,
absort d’anhel entre les flors i els sons.
