O voorjaarsgroen, o dauwfris gras!
Hoe menig hart door jou genas,
Dat, door de wintersneeuw verlamd,
O, als mijn hart naar jou verlangt!
 
Reeds schiet jij op uit aardes nacht,
Zie hoe mijn oog je tegenlacht!
Hier in het bos, op stille grond,
Druk ik jou, groen, aan hart en mond.
 
Hoe jaagt mij weg van mensenoord
Mijn leed! Hier helpt geen mensenwoord!
Slechts jong groen gras, aan 't hart gevlijd,
Maakt dat mijn hart wat minder strijdt.
