Pierrot stands in the garden
Language: English
Our translations:  GER
Pierrot stands in the garden
Beneath a waning moon,
And on his lute he fashions
A fragile silver tune.

Pierrot plays in the garden,
He thinks he plays for me,
But I am quite forgotten
Under the cherry tree.

Pierrot plays in the garden,
And all the roses know
That Pierrot loves his music, --
But I love Pierrot.

Pierrot zeigt sich im Garten
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the English
Pierrot zeigt sich im Garten
- der Mond am Himmel zieht -,
auf seiner Laute spielt er
ein silberzartes Lied.

Für mich, im Garten, meint er,
sei einzig die Soiree,
derweil ich ganz vergessen
unter dem Kirschbaum steh.

Pierrot spielt bei den Rosen,
die wissen ohnehin,
dass er seine Musik liebt,
doch ich, ich liebe ihn.
