Endnu ingen Røst, som kalder
mig «en liden Hjærtenskjær».
Alting lytter, alting bier,
raaber paa mig, naar det tier;
men straks Aftenrødme falder,
lyser vemodstræt dens Skjær.
Snart i Sorg og snart i Smil.
Mangelunede April!

Hvorfor svulmer Melodier
høiest i mig, naar det tier!
Hvorfor standser jeg fortrollet
af den Drøm, hvori jeg gaar?
Endnu ingen Sange sungne!
Ingen Elskovsblomster sprungne!
Aa, jeg vilde, at de folded
ud sig nu i Sol og Vaar
snart af Sorg og snart af Smil!

Tout écoute, tout attend,
tout m'appelle en se taisant ;
mais sitôt après le coucher de soleil
brille dans ses lueurs une mélancolie alanguie,
tantôt chagrin, tantôt sourire.
Avril multiforme !

Pourquoi des mélodie montent-elles
en moi quand tout se tait !
Pourquoi suis-je ensorcelée
par ce rêve, où que j'aille ?
pas un chant ne retentit déjà !
pas une fleur de la forêt n'est sortie !
Ô je voudrais qu'éclate
maintenant, au soleil, au printemps
