Sitze hier an lieber Stelle
Wo ich einst nicht sass alleine;
Damals klang hier süsse Rede
Wo ich heut' mein Los beweine.
Schön und hell nennt man die Erde,
Voller Lust und voller Freuden;
Doch ist mir sie ewig dunkel,
Weil ich soll ihr Schönstes meiden.
Von den vielen duft'gen Kräutern
Die in diesem Garten stehen,
Wird kein einz'ges, ach, mich heilen;
Ich muss qualvoll untergehen.

Lost happiness

Here, I am sitting at a nice place,
Where I used to sit in company;
Back then, sweetest words were voiced,
Now I am weeping over my destiny.
Beautiful and bright they call the world,
Full of happiness and joy;
But for me, the world is cheerless
As I miss the greatest joy.
Of these lovely-smelling herbage
Growing in this garden,
Not a single one will cure me,
I will have to cease in pain.
