Το λαγιαρνί

Έβγα Γκόλφω μ' στο βουνό,
έχω δυο λόγια να σου πω,
να τα πεις τ' αφέντη σου,
να του κάψεις την καρδιά.

Βγήκαν κλέφτες στο βουνό
για να κλέψουν άλογα,
κι άλογα δεν ηύρανε,
προβατάκια πήρανε.

Αχ! Αχ! πήρανε το λαγιαρνί
που 'χε το χρυσό μαλλί,
το ασημένιο κέρατο
και το χρυσό κουδούνι.

Προβατάκι μ',
κατσικάκι μ',
λαγιαρνάκι μ', αχ!
Το πήρανε και παν,
άιντε μανούλα μ', παν,
και πίσω δεν κοιτάν.

Note: this text is written in a local dialect of Ήπειρος (Epirus or Eperus), West Greece. An oddity of this text, according to Athanasios Papaisiou, is that "λαγιαρνί" (layarni) actually means "the black lamb", but in the text you can read that this layarni was "the one with the golden hair".
