Snödroppen

Det faller i flockar, det faller i fler,
det snöar kring nordanlanden,
och skogarne bädda sig mer och mer
i hvita drifvornas täcke ner,
och fiskarens skuta du öde ser,
där hon ligger kringfrusen vid stranden.

Det hviner i vinden, så kall som en is,
och furorna mumla och buga;
i djupa snön en vandrare ses
med frusna händer stjäla sig ris,
att få en knapphändig brasa på spis
i fattigmans bräckliga stuga;

men vårsol ställde en stilla bön
till dalens drifva, som smälte,
och innan marken än blifvit grön,
hon väckte en liten blomma ur snön,
en drömmande snödroppe, ljuflig och skön,
som löste sig fri frän sitt bälte.

Välkommen, du blomma, så späd och skär,
som växer bland snö upp ur jorden!
För långa vintern, som hemma är,
ett ljufligt löfte du innebär.
Du, lilla blomma, du är oss kär,
du lofvar oss sommar i norden!

Perce‑neige

Il tombe des flocons, il en tombe beaucoup,
Il neige partout dans ce pays du nord,
Et les forêts recouvrent de plus en plus
Le sol de blancs monceaux de neige,
Et l'on voit les barques de pêcheurs
Dispersées sur la plage gelée.

Le vent siffle froid comme la glace
Et les pins murmurent et se courbent.
Dans la neige profonde on voit un promeneur
Dérober des brindilles de ses mains gelées
Pour en faire un maigre feu de cheminée
Dans la frêle chaumière du pauvre homme.

Mais le soleil du printemps a adressé une prière muette
Aux neiges de la vallée qui ont commencé à fondre.
Et avant que les champs ne soient redevenus verts,
Il a fait sortir une petite fleur de la neige,
Un perce-neige rêveur, délicieux et beau,
Qui s'est libéré de ses entraves.

Bienvenue à toi, fleur si timide et si pure,
Qui pousse dans la terre sous la neige.
Face aux longs hivers de notre pays,
Tu signifies une amicale promesse.
Toi, petite fleur, tu nous es chère,
Tu nous promets l'été dans le Nord.
