by Mathilde Beckmann-Raven (1817 - 1902)

O warum senkest Du, Rose
Language: German (Deutsch)
O warum senkest Du, Rose,
So matt und welkend Dein Haupt?
Sprich! hat der Sturm Dich gebeuget
Und Dir die Blüthen geraubt?

"Nicht beugte der Sturm mich nieder,
Ich traure um tieferes Weh.
Nie hab' ich froh mich erhoben,
Keine Blüthe schmückte mich je.

Denn ach, dies einsame Plätzchen
Grüßt nimmer ein Sonnenstrahl,
Und so, ohne Licht und Wärme,
Vergeh' ich in schweigender Qual."

Mein Auge füllt sich mit Thränen,
Es pocht mein blutendes Herz:
O, Rose, Du arme Rose!
Wir tragen denselben Schmerz.
