Weißt du, mein kleines Mägdelein,
Wer wohl Cupido ist?
Es ist ein kleines Knäbelein,
Voll Argheit, Schwänk' und List.

Zwei Flüglein hat das lose Kind,
Damit fliegt es gar schnell:
Ob es schon ist an Auglein blind,
Sieht's dennoch scharf und hell. 

Rückwärts hängt ihm ein Köcherlein,
Wohl auch ein Bogen rund,
Mit dem schießt's tief ins Herz hinein
Und macht dir's liebenswund.

Dann seufzt und weint dein armes Herz,
Leidt große Qual und Pein,
Und nichts kann stillen dir den Schmerz,
Ein Männlein nur allein.

Ach Liebchen, fleuch sein Schelmenspiel
Und trau und bau ihm nicht;
Er schießt der Herzen allzuviel,
Der kleine Bösewicht.

Weet jij, mijn kleine meisje lief,
Wie wel Cupido is?
Het is een kleine hartendief,
Vol sluwheid, gein en list.
 
Twee vleugeltjes heeft het lepe jong,
Daarmee vliegt hij heel snel;
Al zijn, zegt men, zijn oogjes blind,
Toch ziet hij scherp en hel.
 
Zijn rugje draagt een kokertje,
Alsook een boog, mooi rond,
Daarmee schiet hij een pijl in ’t hart,
Geeft jou een liefdeswond.
 
Dan zucht en schreit je arme hart,
Heeft groot verdriet en pijn,
En niets kan stillen dan je smart,
Of ’t moet een ventje zijn.
 
Ach kind, ontvlucht zijn schelmenspel,
Vertrouw, geloof hem niet;
Hij treft het hart, te vaak, te fel,
De kleine deugeniet.
