by Charles-Maurice Couyba (1866 - 1931), as Maurice Boukay

Le baiser qui fuit
Language: French (Français)
Donne-moi le droit d'oser
        Un baiser,
Le baiser qui me fait vivre.
Mais pourquoi me refuser
        D'épuiser
La coupe où l'amour s'enivre ?
Ainsi parlai-je à mon tour,
        Et l'amour
Mit ta lèvre sur ma lèvre....
Ta lèvre fuit tout à coup :
        Loin du loup,
Telle en émoi fuit la chèvre.

Tel fuit le pâtre aux abois,
        Dans les bois,
Devant la vipère louche.
Il va plus vite qu'un daim :
        Tel, soudain,
Ton baiser fuyait ma bouche,
Non, non, ce n'est point oser
        Un baiser
Que de fuir, sans rien entendre.
C'est donner à ton amant
        Seulement
Le regret d'un baiser tendre.
