by Richard Zoozmann (1863 - 1934)

Der Schuhflicker
Language: German (Deutsch)
In einer öden Gasse war's,
Da hört ich zur Nacht ein Hämmern;
Ein Alter saß, schneeweißen Haar's,
In fahlen Mondlichts Dämmern.

Was sollen die leichten, zierlichen Schuh
So spät in deinen Händen?
Die willst wohl der kleinen Enkelin du
Zum Kirmestanze spenden?

Aus ernstem Aug' blickt er mich an:
Gar müde Füße tragen
Nun bald dies Paar: so müden kann
Kein Tanz mehr je behagen.

Ich sitze und hämmre und nagle geschwind
Zum letzten Gange die Schuhe:
Du aber eile zum Reigen, mein Kind,
Weitab von Tod und Truhe!
