Det glider en liten stråle
in i min fönster smyg.
Den leker på mattans rutor
så darrande fin och blyg.
 
Den leker min barndoms lekar
och bygger luftiga slott
med tinnar och torn och prinsessor
och sagans grånade drott.
 
För länge sen slotten grusats,
och sagan har nått sitt slut,
men ändock, dansande stråle,
dröj vid din lek en minut!
 
Dröj, att jag åter må finna
i sagans skogar och snår
de vackraste svunna drömmar
jag drömt under barnaår.

Pieni päivänsade hiipii
huomaamatta sisään ikkunastani.
Se leikkii maton ruuduilla
väreillen hennosti ja ujosti.
 
Se leikkii lapsuuteni leikkejä
ja rakentelee pilvilinnoja, joissa on
muureja ja torneja ja prinsessoita
ja sadun harmaantunut ruhtinas.
 
Aikoja sitten on linna murskattu
ja satu päässyt loppuun saakka,
mutta silti, tanssiva päivänsäde,
viivy silti leikkimässä vielä pieni hetki.
 
Viivy, että saisin taas löytää
sadun metsissä ja vesakoissa
kauneimmat haihtuneet uneni,
joita näin, kun olin vielä lapsi.
