Am Wickeltisch
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Seht, wie er kribbelt und krabbelt,
's ist ein Spaß!
Seht, wie er zippelt and zappelt,
Pudelnaß!
Nun kommt aus dem Wännchen
Das Männchen--
Da macht es ein Flännchen
Und hebt die Stimme
Mit Grimme!
Herr Gott, was er schreit!
So sei doch gescheidt!
Dein Vater ist ein stiller Mann,
Der solchen Lärm nicht haben kann[.]
Lieg' ruhig und brav in der Wiegen,
Sonst wirst du nie ein Brüderchen kriegen!
'S ist hart,
Aber ich schwör's bei meinem Bart!--
Da hat er die Aeuglein groß gemacht
Und -- gelacht!
Frau, bündel' ihn fest,
Und liegt er im Nest,
Dann schnell die Flasch' ihm eingeschenkt!
Der Jung' ist gescheidter, als man denkt!

At the changing table
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Look how he scrambles and scrabbles,
It’s a hoot!
Look how he wriggles and wiggles,
Sopping wet!
Now from out the tubby
Comes the little man--
Then he makes a face
And lifts up his voice
In rage!
Lord God, how he screams!
Come be sensible now!
Your father is a quiet man,
Who cannot stand such a racket[.]
Lie in your cradle quietly and be well-behaved,
Otherwise you shall never get a little brother!
It’s hard,
But I swear it by my beard!--
At that he opened his eyes very wide
And -- laughed!
Wife, wrap him up tightly,
And when he is lying in his nest,
Then quickly serve him his bottle!
The lad is cleverer than one might think!
