I am a merry musician, And never in a bad mood; And in the King’s army I blow The mighty trumpet. I am a merry musician, And behind the fence In the bivouac I blow the trumpet As contentedly as upon the march. I am a merry musician; I love maidens, black-haired and brown-haired ones, And all the maidens are favourably disposed to me, Because I trumpet forth their praises. And should I fall in the fray To the thunder of the cannons, Then even louder shall I on high Trumpet forth "the praise of the Lord." And should upon the judgement day Many a person fall into a bad mood, I remain a merry musician! And blow the trumpet.
