Le soir pleure son deuil sur le jardin désert
Frissonnant souvenir de l’heure ensevelie
Au verger de silence et de mélancolie
Où nous avons aimé, tous les deux, et souffert.
 
L’herbe envahit le sol et plus rien ne persiste
Des sentiers de naguère où s’attardaient nos pas.
Une fleur sans parfum que je ne connais pas,
Courbe languissamment sa tige qui s’attriste.
 
Seul dans le noir exil du silence et du soir
Je songe au cher Jadis, aux paroles clémentes
Que berçait la brise anonchalie, à l’espoir
Qui fiançait ta bouche et mes lèvres aimantes.
