by Katri Vala (1901 - 1944)

Kesäilta laitakaupungilla
Language: Finnish (Suomi)
Suuri talo helisee kuin soittorasia,
etelämeren lauluja, tanssin rytmiä,
hempeitä lauluja rinnan marssien kanssa.

Ikkunoista kurkottavat ihmiset,
katsovat merelle oudoin silmin,
kuuntelevat askeleita kadulla,
uneksivat juhlista, kauniista sydämistä,
onnesta, joka ei tule.

Kalliolla vastapäätä kulkee kädetön nuorukainen
lakkaamatta tuijottaen merelle.
Tyhjät hihat lepattavat kuin voimattomat siivet.
