A pena il sol

A pena il sol con le sue chiome belle, 
Coronato di raggi, 
Vestito di splendori, 
Sorgea dall'onde ad offuscar le stelle, 
Quando un afflitto amante, 
Non trovando riposo 
Lasciò le piume, e spinto dal pensiero, 
Per ignoto sentiero 
Si portò vanneggiante, 
Fin che giunse in un prato 
Dove un fiume scorrea. 
Qui sospirando ei solo, 
Per dar tregua al suo duolo 
Ad'alta voce all'hor così dicea: 
"Dio di Delo, che nel cielo 
Porti luce al novo dì, 
Fa che Lilla il caro bene 
Per mercé delle mie pene, 
Pria del tuo tramontar mi doni un sì. 
Fa ch'Amore, quale il core 
Con sua face acceso m'hà, 
Del mio mal fatto pietoso 
Spenga almeno il foco ascoso 
Che chiuso dentr'al sen hora mi stà." 
In questa guisa appunto, 
Su la riva del fiume passeggiando, 
Gridava Eurillo, quando 
Per soverchio dolore 
havend'il piede al pari del pensiero, 
Vaccillante, e non essendo asciutto 
Dalla ruggiada ancor l'umido suolo, 
Sdruciolando nell'aque s'affogò; 
Così d'amore le fiamme amorzò.
