Bläulich dämmert am Hügel hinab zum See
Matten Schimmers im Schmelzen der weiche Schnee,
In den Nebeln gestaltlos wie bleiche Träume
Schwimmen vielästige Kronen erstorbener Bäume.
 
Aber durchs Dorf, durch alle schlummernden Gassen
Wandelt der Nachtwind, schlendert lau und gelassen,
Rastet am Zaun und lässt in den dunklen Gärten
Und in den Träumen der Jugend Frühling werden.

With a pale shimmer the soft snow, melting,
Fades bluely down the hill to the lake,
In the mists, as formless as pale dreams,
Swim the dendritic crowns of dead trees.

But through the village, through all the slumbering streets
The night-wind wanders, strolls tepidly and calmly,
Rests at the fence, and lets it become spring
In the dark gardens and in the dreams of youth.
