O, min älskling skildes här ifrån mig,
Och han sade ej: "Gud med dig, dyra!"
Tryckte blott sin mössa ned på pannan,
Slog till jorden sina svarta ögon
Och mot barmen förde högra handen.

Att han tryckte mössan ned på pannan,
Därmed sade han: "Gud med dig, dyra!"
Att han slog till jorden sina ögon,
Därmed mentes: "Mer än ögat dyra!"
Att han förde handen mot sitt hjärta,
Sade: "Aldrig skall jag dig förgäta."
