Der Reitersmann

Es blühen die Rosen, die Nachtigall singt,
mein Herz ist voll Freude, vor Freude es springt;
ein Reiter zu Pferde, so reit’ ich durch’s Land,
für Kaiser und König und Vaterland.
 
Im Wirtshaus am Wege da kehren wir ein,
und trinken ein Gläslein vom goldenen Wein;
du hübsche, du Feine, komm, setz’ dich zu mir,
ein Ringlein von Golde, das schenke ich dir.
 
Und ist sie geschlagen, die blutige Schlacht,
und haben wir Frieden mit Frankreich gemacht,
dann binde den Schimmel ich wieder hier an,
denn treu ist, ja treu ist dein Reitersmann.

Ruusut kukkivat, satakieli laulaa,
sydämeni on täynnä riemua, se pomppii riemusta;
hevosen selässä ratsastan maan halki
keisarin ja kuninkaan ja isänmaan puolesta.
 
Tien varrella me poikkeamme majataloon,
ja juomme tilkkasen kultaista viiniä;
sinä suloinen neito, tule ja istu viereeni,
annan sinulle kultaisen sormuksen.
 
Ja kun verinen taistelu on voitettu,
ja olemme tehneet rauhan Ranskan kanssa,
silloin sidon taas harmaan hevoseni kiinni täällä,
sillä uskollinen on sinun ratsumiehesi.
