Voi repente
Disciogliete un bel sorriso? 
 
Se bel rio, bell'auretta
Tra l'erbetta
Su'l mattin mormorando erra;
Se di fiori un praticello
Si fa bello;
Noi diciam: Ride la terra. 
 
Quando avvien, ch'un zeffiretto
Per diletto
Muova'l piè sull'onde chiare,
Si che l'acqua in sull'arena
Scherzi appena;
Noi diciam, che ride il mare.

Die zwischen Dornen
sich nicht im Morgengrauen öffnen;
Aber als Priester der Liebe
Den Schatz
Schöner Zähne sicher verwahren.
 
Sagt, kostbare Rosen,
ihr Liebenswerten:
Sagt woher es kommt, dass wenn ich euch
mit feurigen Blick bestaune
Ihr plötzlich
Ein schönes Lächeln entfaltet?
 
Wenn der schöne Fluss, die schönen Lüfte
Zwischen den Gräsern
Am Morgen flüsternd umherschweifen;
Wenn eine Wiese mit Blumen
Sich schmückt;
Dann sagen wir: die Erde lacht.
 
Wenn es geschieht, dass ein kleiner Windgott (Zephyr)
Aus Spaß
Den Fuß auf den klaren Wellen bewegt,
so dass das Wasser in der Umgebung
Nur so scherzt:
Dann sagen wir, dass das Meer lacht.
