by Hermann Rollett (1819 - 1904)

Sängers Grab
Language: German (Deutsch)
Es ward ein Sänger begraben,
Der sang mit treuem Mut,
Doch fiel keine einzige Thräne
Aufs Grab, in dem er ruht.

Da steigt aus dem grünen Hügel
Ein Rosenbäumchen heraus,
Und Nachtigallen umfliegen
Den duftigen Rosenstrauß.

Die singen ein rührendes Grablied
Dem Sänger, den Niemand beweint,
Im Thau erglänzen die Rosen,
Und der Mond den Hügel bescheint.

Confirmed with Hermann Rollett, Gedichte: zweite, vermehrte Auflage, Jena: Friedrich Luden, 1849, page 300. Appears in Friedliche Stimmen.
