Du skulle få vad allra fagrast sänder 
den solskensklara maj, om mina händer 
blott kunde gripa allt det överflöd 
av doft och skimmer, som min ungdom bjöd, 
när i en vårnatts långa, ljusa vaka 
en lönn sin rikedom av blom fick skaka 
över de stigar, dit jag styrt min gång 
och där den svala luften blev till sång, 
som om en dämpad kör av näktergalar 
fyllt fantasiens alla slott och salar 
och sjungit sakta ifrån rosensnår 
om all den ljuva lycka, som blev vår.
