Und siehst du wo zwei Herzen in stiller Liebe glüh'n, um immer sie zu quälen musst du von dannen zieh'n! Wie oft durch And'rer Kunde zerriss das schöne Band! Nur einmal blüht die Stunde, wo Herz zu Herz sich fand! Was liebend sich vereinet, o brich es nicht entzwei! Es bühet für die Liebe ja nur ein einz'ger Mai! Viel Blumen blüh'n im Grunde und blühen an dem Strand; nur einmal blüht die Stunde, wo Herz zu Herz sich fand!

When thou dost once discover a heart where passion burns, when there thy fancies hover and thine own bosom yearns, then yield thee to the power which has such tender art; but once can come the hour when heart responds to heart. When two fond souls are grieving and love seems all in vain and hope no ray is leaving and joy has turned to pain, oh seek to save the flower, whose tendrils will not part; but once can come the hour when heart responds to heart. And when the two, united, in holy rapture dream, when faith to faith is plighted and heaven again doth beam, then let all blessings shower that these two did not part; but once can come the hour when heart responds to heart.
