by Charles Fuster (1866 - 1929)

Cueillette
Language: French (Français)
J'ai cueilli la fleur du rire
Sur tes lèvres de vingt ans ;
Et les mots clairs que j'entends
Ta bouche et ton cœur me dire
  Sentent le printemps.

Mais tes yeux ont d'autres charmes
Qui me prennent encor mieux.
Le bonheur n'est pas joyeux :
J'ai cueilli la fleur des larmes
  Au bord de tes yeux.

On dit qu'au soleil de flamme
La fleur périt sans retour...
Voilà pourtant plus d'un jour
Que nous nous cueillons, dans l'âme,
  La fleur de l'amour !

Confirmed with Charles Fuster, Du Fond de l'Âme, Paris, Éd. de L'Année des poètes, 1896, page 97.
