Wirbeln wie die Windesrose
in dem grausen Sturmgetose
schleudert's blitzschnell mich umher.

Nach dem Strudel will's mich bringen,
der das Leben müsst' verschlingen,
sehnend, sehnend zieht's mich hin.
Ich, ich kann nicht widerstehen
diesen Reizen, untergehen
muss ich, kann nicht, will nicht flieh'n.

Aber aus dem Meeresschaume
hebet zu dem lichten Raume
selbst, wie Aphrodite schön,
sich mein Schutzgeist, der mich rettet,
mich durch Liebe an sich kettet,
schwingend zu des Himmels Höh'n.
