Mädchenlied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Es leuchtet so schön die Sonne
Und ich muß müd' ins Büro;
Und ich bin immer so traurig,
Ich war schon lange nimmer froh.

Ich weiß nicht, ich kann's nicht sagen,
Warum mir immer so schwer;
Die anderen Mädchen alle
Gehn lächelnd und glücklich einher.

Vielleicht spring ich doch noch ins Wasser!
Ach, mir ist alles egal!
Kam doch ein Mädchenhändler
Und es war doch Sommer einmal!

Ich möcht' ins Kloster und beten
Für andre, daß ihnen besser geht
Als meinem armen Herzen;
Dem hilft kein Stern, kein Gebet!

Girl’s Song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The sun shines so beautifully
And I have to go to the office tired;
And I am always so sad,
I haven’t been happy for a long time.

I don’t know, I can’t really say
Why it is always so hard for me;
All of the other girls
Seem to go along smiling and happy.

Maybe I’ll just jump into the water!
Ah, it’s all the same to me!
A girl’s promoter {handler} arrived
And it was indeed summer once more!

I want to enter a cloister and pray
For others, that it goes better for them
Than it does for my poor heart;
No star helps, no prayer!
