Sieh mich nicht mehr voll Wehmut an,
du Aug', das einst mir wohlgetan.
O schone mein, dein milder Blick
ruft mich nicht mehr zurück!

Du sprachst so kalt, es müsse sein;
so trag' ich denn mein Leid allein.
Du lässt es ruhig ja gescheh'n,
auf Nimmerwiederseh'n!

Ich wand're fort ins fremde Land,
schon wend' ich mich; gib mir die Hand.
[Erst wenn uns trennen Berg und Au'n,
will ich zurück noch schau'n.]1

So leb denn wohl, und denkst du mein,
verkünd' es mir ein Lüftelein,
das mag vom Aug' die Träne weh'n.
Leb wohl! Nun [lass mich]2 geh'n!

Note for Kücken's setting: in stanza 4 line 4, the altered words "muss ich" revert to the original "lass mich" in the repetition.
