Paa Forpost
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Nattens dæmrende Taager
Har sig paa Engen lagt
Der kun Soldaten vaager
Paa sin farlige Vagt.
Medens hans Blikke vanke
Gjennem det øde Rum,
Sysler hans stille Tanke
Udi sin Helligdom.

Thi han bærer derinde
Gjemt i en trofast Sjæl
Billedet af en Kvinde
Deilig som Freia selv!
Og naar han dristig træder
I Slagets Dødningdands
Billedet sig iklæder
Valkyriens høie Glands.

Kjøle Luftning fra Søen,
Bringer du med et Bud?
Mødte du hist paa Øen
Nylig min unge Brud?
Svaled du Kindens Rødme,
Løste du Lokkens Fald,
Nipped du Læbens Sødme?
Ak! deel da med mig halv!

Løste hun af sit Fængsel,
Mens du i Løvet skjalv,
Hjertets bævende Længsel,
Sukkets vingede Alf;
Hvisked hun: Jeg vil græde,
Kommer igjen ei han,
O! da gaaer jeg med Glæde
I Døden for mit Land!
