by Oswald von Wolkenstein (c1377 - 1445)
Translation by Alfred Rottauscher (1888 - 1926)

Im Mai
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Mittelhochdeutsch
O wonniglicher, wohlgezierter Mai!
Dein süß Geschrei
bringt Freuden mancherlei,
besonderlich, wo zwei
in einem schönen Reih'
sich mutiglich verhändelt han.

Dein' weibliche Güt'
tut mich strafen, zaffen dich,
mit Gehren
verkehren.
Des mehren
ich erschrick.
Lass fahren,
nicht sparen
für mich dein lieblich Blick!
Dein Quälen,
dein Hellen
bald mir tröstlichen schick!

Ach, traut Gesell,
ich muss, was dein Gnad' wöll.
Dein Fromden groß
mich ant der Sinne bloß

O zartlichstes Weib,
den Jammer hie vertreib',
erquick den Mann in Freudenschall!
Seit mir die liebe Zeit
wend't Ungemach,
so wacht Lieb', ach.
Es ist mir gar so gach,
zu denken derer nach,
die ich so lang' nicht sach
und ihrer Ärmlein weiß Umfah'n.
