Sängers Abschied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Warum schlägst du so schwere Schläge,
mein Herz, was presst so bange dich?
Warum trägst du dies ernst Gepräge?
Was quält, mein Herz, was ängstigt wohl dich?

Es ist das schwere Wort der Trennung,
der Trennung, ach, aus diesem Land,
wo mir so schöne Stunden schlugen,
wo ich so hohes Glück empfand.

Lebt wohl, ihr schönen Au'n, ihr Haine,
ihr Hallen, wo ich gerne sang!
Ich steh' an eurer Mark und weine,
wo sonst mein freudig Lied erklang.

Ich ziehe fort, doch denk' ich eurer
auch ferne an dem fremden Strand;
am Frührot wie beim Abendfeuer
tönt euch mein Lied im fernen Land!
