by Matthias Claudius (1740 - 1815)
Translation by Jakob Christian Lindberg Knudsen (1858 - 1917)

Vi pløjed, og vi så'de
Language: Danish (Dansk)  after the German (Deutsch)
Vi pløjed, og vi så'de
vor sæd i sorten jord,
så bad vi ham os hjælpe,
som højt i himlen bor.
Og han lod snefald hegne
mod frosten barsk og hård,
han lod det tø og regne
og varme mildt i vår!

Alle gode gaver,
de kommer oven ned,
så tak da Gud, ja, pris dog Gud
for al hans kærlighed.

Det er jo ham, hvis vilje
opholder alle ting,
han klæder markens lilje
og runder himlens ring.
Ham lyder vind og vove,
ham rører ravnens nød,
hvi skulde ej hans småbørn
da og få dagligt brød?

Alle gode gaver, etc.

Ja, tak, du kære fader
så mild, så rig og rund,
for korn i hæs og lader,
for godt i allen stund.
Vi kan jo intet give,
som nogen ting er værd,
men tag vort stakkels hjerte,
så ringe som det er!

Alle gode gaver, etc.
