Zie naar de loovers, melieve! die luchtig
Glinstren in den zonneschijn -
Zie, hoe ze zweven en beven en vluchtig
Schaduwen schilderen, grillig en fijn,
Op de zonnige zoden!
 
Zie, hoe het blauw, aan den hemel ontvloden,
Schittert tusschen groen en geel!
Vlinders in 't loovergewemel gevloden,
Blinken als bloesems op wiegenden steel,
Bang dat vinken ze vingen.

Hoor, hoe de vogelen fladdren en zingen,
Liefde, leven, lente lof!
Voel u de lente als een luwtje doordringen,
Dan wordt uw leven uw lente te dof,
Dan verlangt ge te lieven. -
