by Gottfried Keller (1819 - 1890)

Unser ist das Los der Epigonen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Unser ist das Los der Epigonen,
Die im weiten Zwischenreiche wohnen;
Seht, wie ihr noch einen Tropfen presset
Aus den alten Schalen der Zitronen!
Geistiges ist mässig noch vorhanden,
Auch des Lebens Süsse wird noch lohnen;
Wasser flutet uns in breiten Strömen,
Brauchen es am wenigsten zu schonen:
Braut den Trank für lange Winternächte,
Bis uns blühen neue Lenzeskronen
Und der Dichtung Fahrzeug mag entrinnen
Dem Bereich der grausen Lästrygonen!
