Vågorna sjunga

Hon stod en morgon på strandens ljung,
så frisk, så glad, så blommande ung;
med jubel hon sprang i vårt svala sköt,
som en glänsande svan hon i sundet flöt.
Vi kysste de smidiga lemmarnes snö!
Gud skänke dig glädje, vågornas mö!
Hon stod i middagens qvalm på strand
med strålande blick, med kind i brand.
Då kom det en yngling, förr ej spord,
han lockade henne med fagra ord.
Vi gungade båda till blommig ö.
Gud skänke dig lycka, vågornas mö!
Hon stod på starnden en stormig qväll;
vi brusade doft mot klippans häll.
Hon slog de hvita händerna hop
och sprang i vår famn med ett ångestrop.
Vi hjälpte det bristande hjertat att dö.
Gud skänke dig frid, du vågornas mö.
