Fliege, Vögelein, fliege zu der Geliebten hin, 
Sag' ihr, dass ich auf immer von ihr geschieden bin. 
Sing' von der schattigen Linde ihr meines Herzens Weh, 
Vögelein, fliege geschwinde, bring' ihr mein letztes Ade!  

Eilet, ihr Wellen, eilet, eilet zu ihr, 
Bringet ihr diese Grüsse, diese Blumen von mir. 
Küsst ihre schlanken Glieder, kühlend bei'm Abendschein, 
Rauscht zu ihr wieder und wieder:  Liebchen, gedenke mein!

Schwebe, o Lüftchen, schwebe hin zur Geliebten mein. 
Flüstre ihr meine Klagen tief in's Herz hinein, 
Läut' ihr mit Blumenglocken zu Grabe entschwund'nes Glück.
