by Luís de Camões (c1524 - 1580)
Translation possibly by August Wilhelm Schlegel (1767 - 1845)

Lied
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Portuguese (Português)
Woraus Liebe keimet
Wer es könnt' erspähen,
Um sie auszusäen.

Lieb' und ihre Plagen,
Baut' ich emsiglich;
Liebe säet' ich,
Trug hat sie getragen.
Nie in meinem Tagen,
Sah ich jemand säen
Und dasselbe mähen.

Blühend im Gefilde
Sah ich sich ehreben
Dornen, hart dem Leben,
Nur den Augen milde.
Mit dem armen Wilde
Dem solch Kraut ersehen,
Ist es bald geschehen.

Was ich that auch immer
Ward umsonst versucht.
Sät' ich gute Frucht,
Wucherte sie schlimmer.
Liebe sah ich nimmer
Lange Zeit bestehen,
Und der Noth entgehen.
