by Christian Felix Weisse (1726 - 1804)

Der Vorwitz, das Künftige zu wissen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Gütig hüllt in Finsternissen
Gott die Zukunft ein;
deutlich sie voraus zu wissen
würde Strafe sein.

Säh' ich Glück auf meinem Wege,
würd' ich stolz mich bläh'n
und leichtsinnig oder träge
meinen Zweck verseh'n.

Säh' ich Unglück, würd' ich zittern,
und die künft'ge Zeit
würde mir das Glück verbittern,
das mich itzt erfreut.

Was ich habe, will ich nützen,
fernen Gram nicht scheu'n,
und, soll ich ein Glück besitzen,
meines Glücks mich freu'n.
