In 't welkend loover ruischt een lied voor mij.
Geen lente lacht meer in 't verschiet voor mij.
O najaarswind, ik heb uw lied verstaan:
De blauwe bloem, die 'k zocht, bloeit niet voor mij.
Hoe teeder was - nog is 't niet lang geleên -
de hand, die nu mij alsem biedt, voor mij!
De zomer week, de vogel vlood, de bloem viel af,
en de arm, waarop ik steunde, is riet voor mij.
O wind, geef mij één zucht! O regenvlaag,
geef mij één traan! Geen andre vliet voor mij.
