Du wandelst so stumm durch Lenz und Hag,
Als wärst du von Blindheit befangen.

"Ich bin nicht blind und sehe doch nicht,
Mir ist nicht dunkel und ist nicht licht.
Könnt' lachen und könnte weinen.
Doch sagen könnt' ich es keinem."

O sieht dich die Sonne so freundlich an, 
Was sollen dir Schmerz und Reue?
Wirf ab deine Last, du trauriger Mann,
Und freu' dich an Sonne und Bläue.

"Mich freut keine Sonne, mich freut kein Blau
Und hab' doch den Frühling so gerne.
Ach, die ich allein nur am liebsten erschau,
Die weilt schon lang in der Ferne."

Digues-me, tu que somies a la llum del dia,
què vols dir avui amb les teves pors?
Tu camines tan silent per el bosc a primavera,
com si estiguessis afectat de ceguesa.

“No sóc cec i tanmateix no hi veig,
per a mi no hi ha foscor ni claror,
tan aviat podria riure com plorar.
Però no podria dir-ho a ningú.”

Oh, el sol t’esguarda tan amicalment,
per què tota aquesta pena i recança?
Deixa anar el teu llast, tu home trist,
i gaudeix del sol i del cel blau.

“No em plauen el sol ni el cel blau
i tanmateix m’agrada tant la primavera.
Ai, l’única que m’estimaria més esguardar,
és lluny, de fa molt temps.”
