Rast haltend unter Edeltannen
Besinn ich mich der alten Zeit,
Da in mein erstes Knabenleid
Dieselben Waldesdüfte rannen.

An diesem Ort -- -- ich lag im Moose
Und träumte scheu und knabenwild
Ein blondes, schlankes Mädchenbild,
In meinem Kranz die erste Rose.

Die Zeit ging hin; der Traum ward alt
Und wich von mir.  Ein andrer kam. --
Wie lang, daß der auch Abschied nahm!

Mich quält, wem jener erste galt.
Ja wem? Ich weiß nur noch: sie war
Holdselig, schlank und blond von Haar.

Reposant sota els avets blancs,
em recordo dels temps passats,
quan, en les primeres penes de noiet,
les mateixes flaires de bosc s'hi respiraven.

En aquest lloc -- -- jeia damunt la molsa
i pueril, somiava tímidament i ferotge
amb una noia rossa i esvelta,
la primera rosa de la meva garlanda.

Va passar el temps; el somni es va fer vell
i es va allunyar de mi. En va venir un altre. --
Quant de temps va passar abans que aquell també se’n anés!

Em turmenta de qui es tractava aquell primer.
Sí, de qui? Només recordo: ella era
encisadora, esvelta i amb cabells rossos.
