by Elena Vacarescu (1864 - 1947)

Chanson roumaine
Language: French (Français)
Elle a passé sur la colline
En fi lant de la laine fi ne.
Et tous disaient d’un sombre accord :
Regardez-la bien, c’est la mort !

Elle avait fuseaux et quenouille
Et des cheveux couleur de rouille
Et de beaux yeux couleur du four !
Mon cœur disait : c’est mon amour.

Et j’ai couru vers le fantôme.
Sur le coteau que l’herbe embaume
J’ai possédé son baiser fi er,
C’était ce soir, c’était hier !

Regardez là, dites de grâce,
Si c’est là-bas la mort qui passe.
Si c’est la mort, si c’est l’amour
Avec ses yeux couleur du jour.

Ah dites-moi si je suis ivre
De la tombe ardente, ou de vivre.
