De kriekroode zunne
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
De kriekroode zunne
      zinkt zachtjes in 't nest,
dat God heur gebouwd heeft,
      in 't avondgewest,

van balken en boomen
      en banken, zad blauw;
van doomen en dampen
      en dompen, peersch grauw.

Daar zinkt ze, gestadig
      al schranken, naartoe;
daar gaat ze, de zunne
      gaan slapen: ze is moe.

Heure oogen, die laaiden
      met zoo veel geweld,
zijn dood van den vaak nu,
      en nedergeveld.

Heur haar is gewompeld;
      heur' kroone en heur staf,
heur' beste juweelen
      zijn altemaal af.

Zij nadert zoo nipte,
      dat 't niemand en ziet:
ze schuift de gordijne, en...
      ze ligt in heur sliet.

De nacht komt ze dekken
      en duffelen,... en zet
het maantje, om te waken,
      rechtover heur bed.

Goên avond, o zonne;
      goên nacht: uw gestraal,
God zegene en beware 't,
      en ons altemaal!
