by Karl von Lemcke (1831 - 1913)

Kluges Mädchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Man ist nur einmal jung,
Man ist nur einmal schön;
Und was auch meine Mutter sagt,
Ich will zum Tanze geh'n.

Meine Mutter hat nicht Recht,
Und sperrt sie mich in's Haus,
So wein' ich mir vor Kummer wohl
Die beiden Augen aus.

Meine Mutter hat nicht Recht,
Meine Mutter handelt schlecht,
Sie sagt, daß mich der fremde Mann
Um meine Tugend brächt'.

Meine Mutter weiß ja nicht,
Wie lieb er ist und gut,
Und daß er mir gewißlich nichts,
Was mich betrübet, thut.

Confirmed with Lieder und Gedichte von Carl Lemcke, Hamburg, Hoffmann und Campe, 1861, page 87.
