by Karl von Lemcke (1831 - 1913)

Alter Sang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Es ritt [des Königs Kind]1 im Hag,
Ihr stolzes Auge glühte;
Im Moos ein Jüngling träumend lag,
Sein junges Herze blühte.

Er summte einen alten Sang,
Darein die Wipfel rauschten,
Der klang so süß, so liebesbang,
Die Nachtigallen lauschten.

Was ist der Jungfrau nur gescheh'n?
Sie weinte still und linde --
Klang ihr das Lied so traurig schön,
Das Lied vom Königskinde?

„Das Wasser ist so tief, so breit,
Ich kann zu dir nicht dringen,
Nun muß mein Herz in Liebesleid
Du Königskind, zerspringen.”
